Keynote Speech by George Frampton
George Frampton is senior of counsel in the Covington & Burling's New York office, member of the Clean Energy and Climate industry group & Co-Chairman of President Obama's Environmnetal Quality Transfer Team. Mr. Frampton served as Chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) from 1998 to 2001, and most recently as Co-Chairman of the Obama transition team for CEQ. As Chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, Mr. Frampton was the President’s principal advisor on environmental policy matters leading a staff of two dozen environmental professionals. Prior to heading the CEQ, Mr. Frampton served from 1993 to 1997 as Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Fish, Wildlife and Parks, with responsibility for supervising the National Park Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. He chaired a number of government-wide major regional initiatives within the Clinton Administration including restoration of the Florida Everglades Ecosystem and distribution of funds from the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Restoration Fund. Mr. Frampton has represented clients in complex litigation, and environmental and energy matters including corporate strategy. He represented Vice President Gore on a Justice Department inquiry into fundraising matters.

Oxford YASATM Motors Limited is Oxford University's 65th spin-out company. The company has been created to commercialise the intellectual property developed on the YASA motor by the Energy and Power Group (EPG). The YASA motor has a number of distinct advantages, including a very high specific torque (torque to weight ratio), a high efficiency (typically up to 95%) and the possibility for low cost manufacturing. Polygenta Technologies is deploying a proven breakthrough technology that allows the replacement of petrochemical feedstock (PTA/MEG) used in the manufacturing of PET by waste plastic bottles. The technology chemically dissolves and filters waste PET bottles back into their original raw material components, which can then replace or be blended with virgin PTA and MEG to produce sustainable PET. The chemical used is a common chemical in the PET industry and is continuously recycled (closed-loop), making this a truly sustainable process. It also uses much less energy and water than other technologies. Polygenta focuses on the bottle-to-textile segment which requires rigorous technical requirements.
